Superman first appeared in *Superman* (1948), a film serial.
Born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, Superman was sent to Earth as a baby by his parents, Jor-El and Lara, to escape the planet's impending destruction. His rocket landed in Smallville, Kansas, where he was found by farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, who named him Clark and raised him as their son.
As Clark grew, he developed extraordinary powers due to Earth's yellow sun. The Kents instilled in him a strong moral compass, urging him to use his abilities for good. He adopted the identity of Superman, a symbol of hope and justice, to protect humanity from various threats.
